Hobby Horse Adventures Frequently Asked Questions
Hobby horsing involves riding a horse (head on a stick) over jumps, cross country, hacks and dressage. Made famous by the Finland Championship Hobby Horsing, it’s now infiltrating the UK.
Most competitions have hobby horses available to use for free during a class or to be loaned out all day for a small fee.
There is currently a large presence in the North and Midlands. New companies are setting up in South and more will follow soon
The competitions are very welcoming and suitable for beginners as there are usually low height classes e.g. 10cm 20cm 30cm and other fun classes. The Hobby Horse community are a friendly bunch and the children encourage each other.
Three and above can do smaller classes. Once the child gets to about eight or nine they may prefer to move onto higher heights. Our oldest children are about fourteen although we have not set an age limit.
The best thing to do is practise at home and see what height jump your child is comfortable with. Our courses are generally 5-8 jumps in sequence so they get quite out of breath doing the sequence of 8.
At our competitions every child wins a rosette in every class. We award 1st-6th rosettes to the children that complete a clear round and do the ‘jump off’ the quickest and give a ‘well done’ rosette to all other competitors for their efforts.
Yes. Come and watch to see if you would like to participate at future events. You can come for free and enjoy the stalls, the show and the warm up area. I am 100% sure that you will want to participate and there may be the option to pay on the day (for a lightly increased fee).
Our classes are £10 per class. For that you get entry into the class, which involves jumping over every jump in a specific order trying not to knock the poles down. Once complete, if you did not knock the poles we time you jumping some of them again as fast as possible. You will receive a rosette and stand on the podium if you are placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
Yes. Spectators are free.
