Hobby Horse Camp 2025 – and the Exciting Road to 2026!

  • September 2, 2025

Hobby Horse Adventures made history this summer with the very first UK Hobby Horse Camp, held at Field House Campsite & Coffee Barn in Driffield.

It wasn’t just a camp — it was a celebration of creativity, inclusivity, and community spirit. Over a glorious, sunny weekend, more than 30 children (ages 3–18, including many with neurodiversity) galloped, laughed, crafted, and competed together. Parents, staff, and traders joined in too, forging friendships and memories that will last long after the tents were packed away.

And the best part? Camp 2026 is already on the horizon — with just 50 places available!

Hobby Horse Camp 2026

Friday: Arrival & First Jumps

Arrival & First Jumps

From the moment families arrived, the campsite buzzed with excitement. Children proudly walked their hobby horses around the grounds, setting up makeshift jumps outside tents and camper vans. Even before the official start, groups of kids were already practicing together, laughter echoing across the fields.

Inside the activity tent, the fun began with hand-painting Schleich horses. Soon after, everyone collected their camp t-shirts and got to know one another over the free jumps scattered around the campsite. The café overlooked rolling fields, giving the whole scene a magical, festival-like feel.

As the sun dipped, the dressage ring came alive. Children performed freestyle routines to songs of their choice — from chart hits to “Pink Pony Club” on repeat — while parents and staff looked on proudly. With snacks and drinks in hand, we all shared in the joy of such a unique and uplifting evening.

Saturday: Competitions, Creativity & The BBC!

Competitions, Creativity & The BBC!

Saturday morning dawned bright and busy. Kids darted between the activity tent and the bustling trade stands, where Shelley’s Handmade Hobby Horses drew admiring crowds and Dougal’s Designs delighted with charms, tattoos, and trinkets. A gust of wind nearly toppled the stand at one point — only for parents to rally and save the day, another moment of teamwork that defined the weekend.

A huge highlight was the arrival of BBC Newsround, with presenter Emma-Louise Amanshia and her crew filming throughout the day. Children gave interviews, showed off their horses, and proudly explained what hobby horsing means to them. Emma even joined in the Grand National, capturing the spirit of the camp perfectly. (Stay tuned to hobby-horses.co.uk for the broadcast date in September!)

The competitions kicked off with a 40cm pairs jumping class, gradually building to higher and more technical rounds. The Best Turned Out contest was a showcase of imagination: horses with plaited manes, colourful ribbons, and even costumes to match their riders.

By evening, the excitement shifted to the Talent Show, where the stage filled with singing, dancing, and even a camp-wide karaoke led by six-year-old Frank. It was impossible not to smile as the whole tent joined in the chorus.

Sunday: Cross-Country & Mounted Games

Cross-Country & Mounted Games

Sunday morning brought another highlight: a cross-country course weaving around the campsite. Children dashed across fields and jumped natural obstacles, their hobby horses flying with every stride. Afterwards, a leisurely hack gave staff time to prepare the arena for mounted games, barrel racing, scurrying, and more.

The legendary water fight was timed to perfection for the hottest part of the day. Shrieks of laughter rang out as children (and a few adults!) squirted each other mid-race. Even little Daisy, our three-year-old brand ambassador, got involved — gleefully soaking older riders and then getting soaked herself.

The weekend closed with more dressage, another round of Best Turned Out, and plenty of chances for everyone to shine. Tired but happy, children headed home with new rosettes, new friends, and stories they couldn’t wait to tell.

Star of the Day & Camp Spirit

Star of the Day

Each day, two children — one younger, one older — earned the coveted Star of the Day rosettes, awarded not just for talent, but for effort, kindness, and positivity. These small celebrations embodied what Hobby Horse Camp is all about: fun, fairness, and friendship.

The activity tent remained a hive of creativity all weekend, filled with crafts, bracelet-making, horse glow-ups, and colouring. It also became a safe space to connect — friendships formed so strongly that one child cried herself to sleep after leaving, already missing the group. Parents spoke of how their children blossomed in an environment where everyone belonged.

Looking Ahead: Camp 2026

Camp 2025 was just the beginning. Next year promises to be even bigger and better:

  • More staff and activities
  • An expanded cross-country course
  • Camp t-shirts and professional photography included in the price
  • A WhatsApp group for parents to keep everyone connected and informed

With BBC Newsround coverage airing in September and another major news feature already planned, interest in Camp 2026 is set to skyrocket.

➡️ Only 50 spaces are available (tent, motorhome, or caravan) — and they will sell out fast.

👉 Book your place before they go!
