Our first Hobby Horse Event in an Outdoor Arena!
Rudyard Equestrian near Leek asked us to host an event at their beautiful stable yard. We have never considered an outdoor arena before for fear of rain.
The horse shoe design stable block with integral court yard and picnic area serviced by their ‘club house’ selling sweets treats and running pony events for children was too irresistible, even though it had an outdoor arena only.
I was not keen on taking a chance on the British Weather but when I researched their yard and looked at their customer reviews I saw that it was a family run yard who seemed to take extra care with young children and also children who were neuro-divergent and may need an extra bit of TLC.
Since we at Hobby Horse Adventures are so supportive of the neuro-diverse community of children who attend our events it seemed like a good fit.
The weather forecast for the Bank Holiday weekend included rain showers and we crossed our fingers the weather gods would smile kindly us.
The day was truly magical. The weather held out. The guests were lovely. We saw some familiar faces and some new. Many of our children are neuro-divergent and we were able to share a quiet, enjoyable event that was made easier and quieter because of the vast size of the arena and the access to large grassy areas with picnic tables on all sides of the arena.
We were surrounded by rolling hills and cute little ponies doing petting or meet and greet sessions with small children. A cat had kittens…. it was truly idyllic and every member of staff and guest probably now want to live there. Happy Hill I heard it called…
One of our lovely mums made up craft kits for children to purchase and to take some tie out during the day. A couple of children enjoyed doing this and it helped them get through what can otherwise be quite an overwelming day.
All of our children get rosettes regardless of being placed (1st-6th) so they all go home with many – one for every class.
The yard itself looks like something from ‘Free Rein’ on Netflix – it is picture perfect and spotlessly clean. Any film crew would get fantastic shots there!.
We packed up after a satisfying day and set off home and then the heavens really did open then and for the rest of the evening and night.
We got lucky this time. Would we risk it again!!! Probably 😉
