At first, I shied away from Gerry as he is obviously far too good for the likes of us!  

Gerry Slade is X Police, has worked with the ambulance service, Pony Club, families, owners of pets reaching the end of their life, royalty… You name it, he has done it.

When he explained all that to me and saw the benefit of having a member of the team who has previously been DBS enhanced checked, done Safeguarding training, and done First Aid training I began to realise what a catch he was!! 🙂

At first, Gerry was more like a business advisor pointing me in the right direction for business and legal advice…. soon we were talking every day and then I begged him to come and photograph our next event.

He probably doesn’t make any money out of our events as they are not horse events (or dog shoots!) where he has an element of guaranteed income. We charge a few pounds for one of his images and he spent all day on his knees shooting the kids for hours and then editing late into the night.

He does it because he ‘gets it’.  It’s madness, it’s probably not making any of us any money, but we absolutely love the concept and there is something about this community of people who love and encourage their children to explore this previously niche and novel hobby. They all have something in common and whatever it is, it makes us all like each other, get along, and have a real ‘feel good factor’. And that’s just the grown-ups.  We never hear what the kids think as they are too busy running and jumping!

Gerry is responsible for most of the images on this website and attends some of our events.  He is next attending Selston Equestrian in the East Midlands. He will set up a staged well-lit jump for the children to find their favourite height and capture them going over.  He will also do a portrait of each child. One free downloadable social media image will be included in the ticket price. Additional photos are available on his website shortly after the show.
